Final talks on salary increase for private sector

President to meet labour delegation tomorrow:

A Labour Ministry delegation, headed by Labour Relations and Manpower Minister Athauda Seneviratne will meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa tomorrow in Colombo for the final discussion over the proposed salary increase of private sector employees.

Troops to take over Mannar ‘Rice Bowl’

Troops in the Wanni front are on the verge of taking over the entire Mannar ‘Rice Bowl’, ground sources said. The area under the Sri Lanka Army control is approximately 100 square kilometres, which is mainly paddy fields.

Second language a must for public servants

All new recruits of the public service must pass the second language efficiency test within five years for job confirmation. Minister Dew Gunasekera said that under the bilingulisation of the public service policy adopted last year, public servants must have a working knowledge of Sinhala and Tamil.
