Ceynor Foundation Ltd., a company under the Ministry of Fisheries and
Aquatic Resources has launched a venture in Bangladesh to manufacture
fishing boats. The total capital investment is $ 80,000. They will
supply multi-fishing boats to Bangladesh.
The technical expertise for this project, consultancy services and
the boat moulds will be supplied by Ceynor Foundation Ltd. It is a
requirement that Sri Lankan workers are employed on this project.
Chairman, Ceynor Foundation, Rohan Jayasinghe said, "At present we
manufacture 'pleasure boats' to be sent to Norway.
We could utilise the technical competency and relevant human
resources to carry out the work. Through this process, we can obtain
local and foreign privileges. This would also result in new avenues to
bring in foreign exchange."
He said, "A dual power fishing boat "Sashmi" has already been
experimented. These boats are very economical as they run on fuel and
wind and save 50 per cent of the fuel cost.
We have already started to manufacture the most advanced dual power
boat which is very sophisticated and it will cost about $ 80,000. We
have received an order from Somalia for this boat". "In addition, we
have started a program to train Somalian youth in boat manufacturing.
Eight Somalian youngsters are receiving training in Sri Lanka under
this program.
This project also brings foreign exchange to the country", he said. |
