Awards for Lankan tea estates

The new Vithanakande Estate, Dellawa (Low and Medium Grown), St. James Estate, Hali Ela (High Grown) and Melfort Estate, Pussellawa (Green Tea) were the overall winners at the Ceylon Speciality Estate Tea of the Year 2008 competition held at World Tea Expo Event in Las Vegas, U.S.A. last month.

Vithanakande Estate won its award for its extra special grade marketed by Asia Siyaka Commodities.

The runner-up in this category was Pothotuwa Estate with the selling brokers being Forbes & Walkers Tea Brokers Ltd. St. James Estate won its award for an orange pekoe sold through John Keells Limited and securing the second place were Sarnia Group and Glen Alpin Estate for their grade of flowery broken orange pekoe 1 (FBOP 1).
