Former Tour de Lanka winner Coomaravel dies

Former five times Tour de Lanka winner Maurice Coomaravel passed away in Australia after a brief illness yesterday.

Coomaravel had the honour of winning the Tour de Lanka cycle race for three successive years and later won the event twice during his illustrious career.

Coomaravel was the pioneer in introducing racing cycling to Sri Lanka in the 1960's before migrating to Australia with his family in 1973.
