48th death anniversary of Dr. T. B. Jayah
The Conference of Sri Lankan Malays (COSLAM) has decided to mark the
Malay Language Day and the 48th death anniversary of Al Haj Dr. T. B.
Jayah on August 24 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at the Abdul Ghaffor
Hall, Zahira College, Colombo 10.
While the purpose of holding the (Malay Language Day) is to
popularise and encourage the use of Malay, the latter event is to honour
a national hero who contributed to Sri Lanka’s pride as a statesman and
politician.
This is the third year that the two events are being held together.
COSLAM has called for entries for oratory and speech competitions.
The competitions held in the age groups 12, 17, 21 and the open category
in Hambantota and Colombo have been successfully completed. The
competitions in Hambantota were held on July 12 and in Colombo. on
August 9.
The Nethra (Eye) Channel will telecast a program on August 21, at
5.30 p.m.
Awareness programs have also been organised with the MTV under their
popular “Good Morning Sri Lanka” program on August 21, between 7.00 a.m.
and 8.00 p.m. and on ITN on August 22, between 11.00 am and 11.30 a.m. |
