Ask civilians to leave Wanni - TMVP Leader tells Govt

The Leader of the TMVP Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan said that leaflets should be dropped to inform civilians about the forward march by the security forces into the Wanni to liberate the civilians.

The former military commander of the LTTE Muralitharan alias Col. Karuna Amman told the ‘Sunday Observer’ that it was necessary to inform the civilians about military offensives to liberate them and the facilities provided for those fleeing the LTTE controlled areas.

It is true that the LTTE plans to use civilians as human shields as the last line of defence. They did the same tactic in Vakarai,” he said.

According to Muralitharan, the Air Force dropped leaflets during the Jayasikuru operation asking people to evacuate LTTE controlled areas.

It worked well. As the LTTE has banned all communications including cell phones, internet and all other radio channels, people are clueless about what is taking place outside the Wanni.

They are unaware of the facilities and the security they would get in government controlled areas”, he said adding that people are only permitted to listen to the Voice of Tigers which glorifies the LTTE.

Muralitharan said that there was no food shortage in the Wanni as the stocks go into LTTE hands. “ Everything is controlled by the LTTE. They take the fuel sent by the government. One-third of all stocks sent to Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu and Vavuniya also go to the LTTE”, he said.

According to the TMVP Leader, there is no environment for the NGOs to function independently and all NGO activities are controlled and channelled through the LTTE.
