Urns catch fire - 11 devotees injured at Nallur festival

Eleven devotees were injured when fire spread from the urns they were carrying with camphor at the chariot festival in Nallur, Jaffna on Friday.

Carrying urns with camphor fire is one of the rituals during Hindu festivals. Some devotees carrying the camphor urns were caught in the fire when there was a stampede.

Four women and seven men were injured when the camphor fire spread suddenly from the urns they were carrying. The Red Cross members put out the fire immediately and rushed the victims in an ambulance to the Jaffna hospital.

The victims are out of danger and are being treated for burn injuries at the Jaffna hospital.
