Brilliant century by Tharanga
Opener Tharanga Paranavithana scored a brilliant century as Sri Lanka
'A' made a bold reply to South Africa 'A' healthy first innings total of
459 all out on day two of their first unofficial Test continued Senwes
Park, Potchefstroom yesterday.
Paranavithana, who reached his century in 139 balls with 13
boundaries, helped the visitors to make 244 for one shortly before close
on Saturday.
Electing to bat first, the home team had an early scare then they
were reduced for 43 for 3, but centuries by Ahmed Amla (106 with 14
boundaries) and Arno Jacobs (131) with 19 boundaries) helped South
Africa 'A' to recover with a 242-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Paceman Suranga Lakmal (3 for 73) and off spinner Dilruwan Perera (3 for
48) shared the bowling honours for Sri Lanka 'A'.
The visitors started their run chase with an impressive 89-run
partnership for the first wicket between Upul Tharanga (61) and Tharanga
Paranavithana. At the wicket are Paranavithana (101 n.o. with 12 fours)
and Kanchana Guanwardena (72 n.o. with 11 fours). The duo have shared an
unfinished second wicket partnership of 155 runs.
