John Tarbat Senior Schools Meet Sept 3 to 5

ATHLETICS: Sir John Tarbat All Island Milo Senior Schools Athletic Meet 2008 organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and sponsored by Milo (Nestle Lanka PLC) will be held from September 3-5 2008, at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Secretary of SLSAA Anil Weerasinghe said the Sir John Tarbat All-Island Milo Senior Schools Athletic Meet will also serve as a trial ahead of two important regional Athletic Meets to be held in India in September and October this year.

The first of the two events will be the South Asian Youth (under-18) and Junior (under 20) Athletic meets to be staged in Pune, India on September 23-24.

The second one will be the Commonwealth Youth Sports Festival also to be held in Pune, India from October 12-19.

The SLSAA Secretary focusing his attention to the Sir John Tarbat All-Island Milo Senior Schools Athletic Meet said that a total of 112 schools will compete at the meet in the age groups of (Under-16, Under-18, Under/20 girls and boys).

He added that a total of 1,425 boys and 1,050 girls will vie for honours this year at the popular meet which had its inception back in 1930.

The organisers have also finalised accommodation for all participants with boys being housed at St. Benedict's College, Kotahena and girls at Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena respectively.

President of the SLSAA, Keerthi de Alwis, thanked sponsors Nestle Lanka Limited for having 'tied up' with his Association for the 15th successive year to make the All Island Senior Schools Athletic Meet a big success. He added that in conjunction to the Athletic Meet, an Under-20 Race Walking event will be held for boys and girls.

He said all participants to call over with one of the following: national identity card, copy of the birth certificate and certified photograph by the respective school principal.
