MTD Walkers to set up steel fabrication plant
MTD Walkers PLC, the holding company of the diversified Walkers Group
of companies will set up a full-fledged master workshop with a state of
the art steel fabrication plant in Malwana this year.

Khalid said the company will commence work on the workshop before the
beginning of the next financial year.
"The US$ 2.5 million workshop will help to enhance the engineering
and infrastructure development capabilities of the company", he said.
MTD Walkers PLC was set up in 2007 as a result of MTD Capital, a
Malaysian based civil engineering and infrastructure development company
buying the majority stake in Kapila Heavy Equipment PLC in May 2007.
Khalid said the company was able to convert Walkers into a profit
making entity within a short span due to sound management practices and
cost control strategies provided by the parent company.
Executive Director, MTD Group, Vincent Lee Leong Yow said that MTD
Walkers will venture into markets by exporting automated machinery for
orthodox tea production capitalising on the global trend of increasing
the demand for tea produced through orthodox methods.
MTD Walkers has embarked on a five-year plan in the construction and
engineering sector. The company also plans to start operations on waste
management.
The company recorded a net profit of Rs. 39 million for the financial
year ending March 31, 2008.LF
