Metropolitan turns 50

Metropolitan, one of the leading entities in Sri Lanka for providing state-of-the-art workplace solutions celebrated 50 years of operation recently. Since its inception in 1958 as an office equipment supplier, Metropolitan has grown today to be the market leader in modern workplace appliances.

Metropolitan Group Chairman, J. J. Ambani said as the company begins its journey into the next 50 years of serving clients, it will be committed to take customers to the next generation workplace solutions, keeping them a step ahead.

The company's workplace solutions includes imaging, printing and office automation.Metropolitan is the front-runner in the telecommunications sector.

Its portfolio of communication products include integrated solutions for data, voice, business-phone systems, mobile phones and video collaboration.

The company has won several awards such as the top five distributor awards by Ericsson, award for leading distributor of Canon in the region, top distributor award for copier sales by Canon and top distributor award from Acer, IBM Printronix and 3com.

During its 50-year journey, Metropolitan has added many firsts to its credit. Among them is the launch of the first Sinhala word processing system in 1985, followed by the introduction of the Sinhala typewriter.
