One PC dead, five injured in B’caloa bomb explosion

Several police personnel escaped death following a claymore bomb
explosion yesterday in Batticaloa.
One Police Constable died while five other policemen travelling in a
police jeep were injured following the explosion near the Sudu Palama at
Kalawanchikudi in the Batticaloa district yesterday morning, Police
Media Spokesman SSP, Ranjith Gunesekera told the Sunday Observer.
He said the explosion had occurred around 9.15 a.m. when the
policemen and women were on their way to the Kalawanchikudi police
station. The deceased has been identified as Police Constable Jewan from
the Veyangoda area. Among the injured were two women Police Constables
and one male police Sergeant.
