Four new records at Police Athletic Meet

Four new meet records were established at the 59th Police Athletic Meet which began at Police Park yesterday. Weerakkody of the Ampara Division won the 3,000 metres women's event with a timing of 00:11:23 to beat the previous record held by Chandrakanthi while Lasanthi of Field Force Headquarters won the 200 metres event clocking 00:25:80.

She bettered the previous record held by Achala Dias (26.2), R.D. Jayamali Rajakaruna won the women's Javelin throw event with a distance of 33:09 m to better the record held by Samaranayake (32.64). B.A. Shamila Ayesha of Colombo South won the women's high jump event clearing 1.48 m, erasing the previous record held by R.W.P. Kusala which stood at 1.41 m.

The meet will be continued today at 9.00 a.m. at the same venue.
