24th National Rowing Championships:

CRC and Ladies win overall titles

ROWING: Colombo Rowing Club oarsmen raced through the water smoothly and skilfully to retain Men's Overall Title with two gold and two silver medals and Ladies College Rowing will great power and courage won women's overall title at the 24th National Rowing Championship conducted by ARASL and sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel held on the Beira Waters yesterday.

Ladies College won nine gold and eight silver medals in the women's section.

The Oarswomen from Ladies College had a field day winning Intermediate Girls' Title with four gold and two silver medals.

S. Thomas' College won the Intermediate Boy's Title with 2 gold and 2 silver.

Thomian with team work of high quality and perfect cordination annexed the Junior Boys' Section collecting five gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

In the Junior Girls' Sector Ladies College bagged the title with four gold, five silver and bronze medals.

For Ladies College if was worthy performance winning three titles.

Devan Hallock, the promising Thomian rower performed the best winning five gold medals. He won the under-19, pairs, double scull, men's open double, men's under-19 four and men's Open four.

Sajeev de Silva also from S. Thomas' College faced well winning tour gold medals in the under-19, scull, pair, double sculls, men's open double.

Women's Under - 19 Pairs: Senuri de Silva (b) Yanithra Hallock (s) of Ladies College beat Sanjeevani Kularatne (B) Nathasha Perera (s) of Musaeus College. Time: 4:32 secs.

Schoolboy Sculler: Thivanka Jayatilaka of Royal College beat Ashen Balasinghe of Ananda College. Time: 4:17 secs.

Schoolgirl Sculler: Swarnamali Wijesinghe of Musaeus College beat Dehara de Zoysa of Ladies College: Time 4:35 secs.

Men's Under - 23 Double Scull: Danushka Lakmal Arandara (B) Ashita Nuwan (s) of University of Moratuwa beat Ruwen Weerasinghe (b), Dhanushka Jayanetti (s) of S. Thomas' College. Time: 3:43 secs.

Men's over 23 Scull: K. A. K. Chandana at Sri Lanka Navy beat K. G. Dassanayake of Sri Lanka Air Force. Time: 3:59 secs.

Men's Under 23 Fours: Uween Jayasinghe (B) Jayan Peiris (2) Yohan Wijeratne (3) Manil Salgadoee (2) Akshath Wickremanayake (cox) of S. Thomas' College beat G. H. M. Radika (B) H. M. C. B. Herath (2), D. S. Rukshan (3) K. T. Buddhika (s) G. L. A. Sunimal (Cox) of University of Moratuwa time: 3:49 secs.

Women's Intermediate Scull: Sarani Jayawardena of Ladies College beat Senuri de Silva of Ladies College beat Senuri de Silva of Ladies College time: 4:43 secs.

Boys Under - 16 Fours: Sanjiva Jayasuriya (B) Ajmal Sideek (2) Sahan Warnasuriya (3) Thivanka Rajapakse (s) Kaveen Rajapakse (cox) of Royal College beat Shehan de Livera (b) Trehan Manatunga (2) Chamal Jayanetti (3) Sajith De Livera (s), Yanik Salgadoe (Cox) of S. Thomas' College. Time: 3:53 secs.

Men's over - 23 Double Scull: T. M. L. P. Tharanga (B) K. G. Dassanayake (s) of Sri Lanka Air Force beat S. A. C. S. Kumara (B), G. C. Nishantha (s) of Sri Lanka Navy. Time: 3:42 secs.

Women's Intermediate Double Scull: Sarani Jayawardana (B) Amaya Jayasuriya (s) of Ladies College beat Varunika Samarasingha (B) Trea Navaratne (s) of Ladies College. Time: 4:27 secs.

Men's Open Double Scull: Devaan Hallock (B) Sajeev de Silva (s) of S. Thomas' College beat Mewan Gunawardena (B) Udesh Hettiarachchi (s) of Colombo Rowing Club time: 3:45 secs.

Women's under-19 scull: Sachitra Jayatilaka of Musaeus College beat Dehara de Soysa of Ladies College time: 4:36 secs.

Men's over-23 Pair: Ruwan Kasun Senadeera (B), B. N. Vishwanath (s) of University of Colombo beat M. E. R. C. P> Kumara (B) R. M. S. L. Rathnayaka (s) of Sri Lanka Navy. time: 3:50 secs.

Women's Intermediate Pair: Varunita Samarasingha (B) Tarea Nivaratne (s) of Ladies College beat Llanka Boteju (B) Tharindi Panduwawara (s) of University of Colombo. Time: 4:27 secs.
