Vogue changes with time

Variety is the spice of life. The same is true for fashions. The recurrent characteristic of fashion throughout ages is its changing nature, rekindling the imagination of the population. At times old fashions recur with contemporary outlook and at another, they revive conventional outfits with amalgamation of modern motifs. However, the changing nature of fashions will remain as a static feature.

However, the modern connotation of the word 'Fashion' is exclusively confined to attire and tag-ups. That too preeminently for the gentle sex. It is by and large a misconception. Smartly dressed men will also grab the attention of an audience as their counterparts in lasses. Although fashions can enhance one's fascial, real beauty lies in the very heart and soul of a person.

It is the fashion that enhances it as a blunted gem is cut to its inner glory.Pageants of fashion not only provide a platform for budding models but also for the emergence of cutting edged technology and vogues in attire.

For this aspect, the Observer Fashion Designer of the Year which is sponsored by Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, ancestral home of newspapers in Sri Lanka, has contributed to the fashion industry in terms of providing a platform and much needed exposure at national level. For the fourth consecutive year, the Observer Fashion Designer of the Year 2008 by Fashion Designer Chula Nanayakkara Ariyaratne of universal fame will be held on November 1, 2008 at the BMICH.Famous fashion designer Ramzi Rahman will add much needed variety and glamour to this years competition. Surely, he will also come out with new outfits and hairstyles, while Channa Wijewardana would add the artistic element to the competition with his versatile troupe. Channa with his signature choreography will , once again, remind us of colourful facets of traditional dancing and also how aptly he had adapted tradition to modern theatre.

The contest is open for both sex and there is no age barrier for contestants. One of the special features of this year's contest is that professional models pose for the contest. Famous fashion designer Ramzi Rahman will add colours to the models.Dialogue GSM has come forward to become the Gold Sponsor for the show. Stage management will be by Imran Packeor Saiboo. Prospective contestants are requested to send their coupons. Contestants should be at the BMICH around 8.30 a.m on October 13, 2008. There will be dance items in between the show. Clifford Richard will be the compere and performer for the show.Stalls are available for commercial establishments by paying the due prize a day before the exhibition. M/S Aitken Spence is the exhibition planner of the Observer Fashion Designers of the Year 2009.Chula Nanayakakara can be contacted on mobile: 077-6325118 and telephone: 0112692153 .
