Lanka nets over $ 2.3 million at Hong Kong exhibition
Sri Lanka earned over $ 2.3 million at the recently held Hong Kong
Jewellery and Watch Fair and was successful in obtaining continuous
monthly orders for calibrated cut blue sapphires, worth $ 50,000,
according to Chairman, National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA),
Hasitha Tillekeratne. This was the 17th occasion that Sri Lanka
participated in this widely-attended international exhibition in Hong
Kong.
Six selected entrepreneurs from the gem and jewellery trade
represented the country at the Lanka pavilion organised by the NGJA.
Medium and large scale Sri Lankan gem and jewellery businessmen who
attended the event obtained orders from the USA, Taiwan, Hong Kong,
Russia and Thailand.
The Hong Kong exhibition is the largest of its kind in the
Asia-Pacific region. Hence participation in such events gives a major
boost to the expansion of Sri Lanka's gem and jewellery industry, the
NGJA Chairman said. He has already made arrangements for the NGJA's
participation in the HK exhibition for the eighteenth time in 2009.
Export Manager Rohan Pitigala represented the NGJA. |
