Senior Surveyor dies in bomb explosion

Senior Vice President of the Surveyors' Institute of Sri Lanka (SISL) and Licensed Surveyor, P. D. G. Weerasinghe died in the bomb explosion at Pirivena junction last Thursday.

At the time of his death he was driving along the Piliyandala road from Bokundara to Boralesgamuwa, right behind the convoy of vehicles escorting Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena, when the LTTE suicide cadre exploded the bomb at Pirivena junction, killing him instantaneously. He was 57. With years of surveying experience the late Weerasinghe was a well-known social worker in the area, a mentor to countless number of colleagues, senior and junior in the field and a very energetic member of the Institute.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
