Senior Surveyor dies in bomb explosion
Senior Vice President of the Surveyors' Institute of Sri Lanka (SISL)
and Licensed Surveyor, P. D. G. Weerasinghe died in the bomb explosion
at Pirivena junction last Thursday.
At the time of his death he was driving along the Piliyandala road
from Bokundara to Boralesgamuwa, right behind the convoy of vehicles
escorting Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Development
Minister Maithripala Sirisena, when the LTTE suicide cadre exploded the
bomb at Pirivena junction, killing him instantaneously. He was 57. With
years of surveying experience the late Weerasinghe was a well-known
social worker in the area, a mentor to countless number of colleagues,
senior and junior in the field and a very energetic member of the
Institute.
He is survived by his wife and two children. |
