Indian HC inaugurates 29th National Conference of ICASL

High Commissioner of India Alok Prasad

More than 600 personalities from the accountancy and allied spheres gathered at the Cinnamon Grand to take part in the inauguration of the 29th National Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) under the patronage of Indian High Commissioner Alok Prasad. Former Precedent Partner of KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton & Co, Rajan Asirwatham was the Keynote Speaker.

The theme of this year's conference was "RE imagine - creating a successful business in challenging times by thinking differently". The conference provided a platform for professionals to gather, deliberate and confer issues that go beyond reading and writing. For over a quarter century, the national conference has added much value with themes ranging from economy, people skills, accountability, governance and ethics being deliberated by eminent panels with an equally competent professional audience in an intellectually stimulating environment providing the much needed debate.

The conference also provided a conducive base for networking, an invaluable tool in modern management. The Conference's Technical Sessions were conducted over two days (October 10 and 11) by a group of eminent and respected corporate personalities through six main presentations titled 'Creating Opportunities', 'Developing a Blue Ocean Strategy', 'The Differentiating Factor', 'Navigating the Vortex', 'Forward Focus' and 'Numbers to Strategy. Among the speakers are Dr. Uditha Liyanage, Director, Postgraduate Institute of Management, Colombo, Rustom Jilla - Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Ansell Limited, USA, Phillip Satish Rao, Partner, Business Risk Services, Ernst and Young, Malaysia and Brendan Murtagh, Deputy President, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, United Kingdom. Eminent CEOs and CFOs discussed current and future trends of the CFO's role, based on the expectations from the organisation, the management as well as other stakeholders.
