World's tallest building in Dubai
The Dubai-based real estate developer Nakheel announced that it plans
to build a one kilometre-high tower in the commercial and financial hub
of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Emirates News Agency reported.
The tower is part of Nakheel's new community project named "Harbour &
Tower" which will include the world's first inner city harbour,
according to the report.
The tower will have four individual towers within a single structure.
A distinctive crescent-shaped podium will encircle its base. Situated in
the centre of the emirate of Dubai on the highway linking Dubai and the
UAE capital Abu Dhabi, the Harbour & Tower will cover an area of more
than 270 hectares and become home to more than 55,000 people and a
workplace for 45,000 more.
Once completed, the tower will replace Burj Dubai, or Dubai Tower, a
skyscraper built by another Dubai-based real estate developer Emaar, as
the tallest man-made structure in the world.
Emaar announced last month that Burj Dubai had reached a new record
height of 688 metres. Burj Dubai became the world's tallest man-made
structure after surpassing the KVLY-TV mast in North Dakota, the United
States, in April.
