President posts Indian PM
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in a telephone conversation yesterday,
has briefed Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the latest
developments in Sri Lanka. Presidential sources told the Sunday Observer
yesterday that President Rajapaksa had a telephone conversation with the
Indian Prime Minister to outline the security developments in the North
and East.
President Rajapaksa has pointed out that Sri Lanka’s battle against
terrorism is not against Tamils and that the Government has taken all
possible steps to protect innocent civilians. Prime Minister Singh has
been briefed on the Security Forces battle against the LTTE terrorists,
the Government’s regular food supply to the North and resettlement of
the IDPs.
Meanwhile Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has requested his
Indian counterpart to send a delegation led by the Indian Minister of
External Affairs to get a first hand information on the Government’s
efforts to liberate innocent Tamils from the clutches of the LTTE
terrorists and resettlement plans. Consequent to this discussion,
Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has invited the Indian Minister of
External Affairs, Pranab Mukherjee to undertake a visit to Sri Lanka at
an early date.
