Royal determined to keep on winning

ROWING: It's another Royal-Thomian come next Saturday, October 25, the 35th Royal-Thomian Regatta and 39th annual Boat Race, the eagerly looked forward to events by rowing fans will be worked off on the Beira Waters starting at 2.30 p.m.

The Regatta is sponsored by Dialog GSM for the sixth successive year.

The T. N. Fernando Trophy will be on offer for the overall winner.

Last year, Royal College oarsmen made a clean sweep with team work of high quality and perfect coordination to win the trophy, collecting 40 points to nil. Royalists are determined to hold the Thomians in check. But the Thomians who recently fared prominently at the National Rowing Championships conducted by the ARASL, will go flat-out to show the right technique and true team spirit to achieve success over their traditional rivals.

Dinouk Perera, the fourth-year coloursman (two/stroke) will lead Royal College crew while Manil Salgadoe, the third-year coloursman (cox) will be the Thomian captain this year.

The events to be worked off are - Senior Fours (Boat Race), Junior Fours, 'A' Pairs, 'B' Pairs, 'A' Sculls, 'B' Sculls, Junior 'B' Fours (no points will be awarded). The annual Old Boys Fours will also be held.

The trophies to be won are: T. N. Fernando Trophy, Boat Race Trophy, Eraj Wijesinghe Trophy, Freddie Raux Trophy, Senior Sculls Trophy, Chulla Samarasinghe Trophy, Ajith Goonawardene Trophy, Percy Fernando Trophy.

The tally on the Regatta now stands at T. N. Fernando. (Overall Trophy) - Royal 14, S. Thomas' 17 and the Boat Race Royal 17 to S. Thomas' 19.
