Budget highlights
- VAT reduced from 15 to 12 per cent
- Diesel reduced by Rs. 30 per litre; Petrol Rs. 15 per litre;
Kerosene Rs. 20 per litre
- 10 per cent levy on fixed line telephones
- Import cess on chocolates, biscuits and sweets increased by 50%
- Ranaviru allowance increased to Rs. 5,000
- Government servants COL increased to Rs. 4,500
- Pensioners COL increased to Rs. 2,000
- Cess on fridges, fans, ceramicware increased by 50 per cent
- Festival advance increased to Rs. 5,000
- Import duty on wheat grain increased to 10%
- 15% cess on imported black gram, kurakkan, cowpea, sesame seeds
and similar imports
- Special Commodity Levy on milkfoods increased to Rs. 15 per kg
- Special Commodity Levy on imported sugar increased to Rs. 16 per
kg
- Cess of Rs. 25 per kg on rubber latex and Rs. 4 per kg on tea
imports
- 25 per cent cess on imported maize and animal feed
- 5 per cent cess on paper imports
- Cess on all imported fruits and vegetables
- 15% per cent cess on imported high quality household and office
furniture
- Cess of Rs. 200 per kg on all imports of footwear, hand bags,
belts and other leather goods
- 1 per cent Nation Building Tax on imports manufacturing, or
services other than on the banking, financial sector for two years
