Library books for estate children in Nuwara Eliya

A large stock of library books worth over Rs. 300,000 will be
distributed among 80 plantation sector schools in the Nuwara Eliya
District by the Ministry of Justice and Law Reforms at the Education
Department's Auditorium, Nuwara Eliya on Wednesday.
This follows a directive of Deputy Justice and Law Reforms Minister
V. Puththirasigamoney. It will take place under the guidance of the
National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB).
Minister Puththirasigamoney told the Sunday Observer yesterday that
this will be the first occasion that such a large stock of library and
school books in all three languages will be distributed among school
libraries in the district.
The Minister said the objective of the program, which is conducted
under the Mahinda Chintana educational program is to improve the reading
habit of children in the plantation sector.He said the estate sector
children are the most vulnerable section in our society.
Therefore, it is the duty of others to help improve their reading
habits and make them educated persons who can be partners in the
country's administration field.
While thanking the NLDSB for providing them with valuable and rare
library books, the Minister said that the books will be immensely useful
to children and elders.
The Justice and Law Reforms Ministry will also conduct seminars
during this period for teachers in the Nuwara Eliya district on the
importance of giving an opportunity to plantation sector children to
broaden their knowledge by reading books on various subjects.
