SLBFE seeks police help to detect bogus job agencies

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) called upon the Police Department to assist the Bureau to detect unauthorised foreign employment agencies that have been set up throughout the country.

According to SLBFE records during the past five months over 60 bogus foreign employment agencies were detected by the Bureau in many parts of the country.

Addressing a group of 450 police officers who were present at the SLBFE Head Quarters in Battaramulla Chairman, Kingsley Ranawaka said that illegal agencies operating in various places in the country have become a big threat to job seekers especially female migrant workers seeking foreign jobs.

Last month our investigation unit raided 21 bogus agencies in Colombo, Matale, Galle, Kadawatha, Badulla, Bandarawela, Kurunegala and Katugastota", he said.

According to the Bureau sending underage female children as housemaids by producing fake Identity cards and demanding huge amounts of money from persons are some of the major activities carried out by bogus employment agents.
