Bone marrow transplant
Niroshini Kurukulasuriya of Kohuwala (24), an old girl of Sirimavo
Bandaranaike College, Colombo 7, presently a part time CIMA student who
has been diagnosed with Acute lymphoblast leukaemia in June is seeking
public financial assistance to meet the cost of urgent costly medical
treatment for her survival.
Doctors have concluded that her condition will turn to worse unless
an allogenic or autologus bone marrow transplant is done during her
first remission. She is presently undergoing a course of intensified
chemotheraphy at Asiri Surgical hospital after which doctors have
strongly recommended a bone marrow transplant this month.
As the facility of bone marrow transplantation is not available in
Sri Lanka, her Oncologist Dr. Sarath Abeykoon and Haematologist, Dr.
Lalindra Gooneratne have contacted Christian Medical College, Vellore,
India in this regard and have been advised that the treatment would cost
approximately Sri Lanka Rs. 10 million. Niroshini's brother Dhanushka,
the sole bread winner of the family who is financially not sound enough
to raise this amount of money for his sister's treatment has sought the
assistance of the Lions Club of Colombo Wekanda to appeal for financial
assistance from friends and well-wishers to save the life of his sister.
