Bad light deprives Ananda of certain victory

Bad light stalled Ananda College, Colombo from certain outright victory over Trinity College in their inter school cricket match concluded at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday.

Trinity were set a victory target of 212 in 38 overs, they were struggling at 88 for 7 in 20.4 overs when bad light stopped play.

Highlight of Ananda's second innings was a fine knock of 91 with 8 fours and 2 sixes off 107 balls by Dinesh Chandimal which helped his side to set a challenging target to their opponents.

Ananda College: 180 and 150 for 5 wickets decl, in 35.1 overs (Dinesh Chandimal 81, G. Wimaladharma 30, Suresh Wickrama 2 for 31). Trinity College: 81 for 4 overnight 118 all out in 63.2 overs (S. Wickrema 32, M. H. M. Sajjid 26, M. Dickwella 11, R. Shamen 3 for 18, M. Perera 2 for 25, S. Perera 3 for 40) and 88 for 7 in 20.4 overs (D. Ganegoda 24, S. Wickrama 39, R. Jaleel 16, J. Janadhi 2 for 2, S. Wijesuriya 2 for 2, M. Perera 2 for 24).


Easy for Tissa Central

CRICKET: Tissa Central, Kalutara trounced Moratu Vidyalaya by 68 runs in their inter-school under-19 cricket tournament match played at Moratuwa.

Centralians continuing their overnight score on day two at 21 for 4 were all out for 179 runs with Gayan Indika top scoring with 43 runs ably supported by Malik Chaturanga who was unbeaten on 31 runs. Lasitha Mendis bagged 4 for 25.Set to make 204 runs for an outright victory Vidyalians were shot out for 135 runs. Malik Chaturanga captured 5 for 53 for centralians.

Tissa Central: 160 and 21 for 4 overnight 179 (Malik Chaturanga 31 n.o., Gayan Indika 43, Lasitha Mendis 4 for 25, Chatura Hemakumara 3/72, Aloka Priyadarshana 2 for 43).

Moratu MV: 136 and 135 (Asanka Silva 40, Sudeepa Kelum 31, Malik Chaturanga 5/53, Kasun Thivanka 2 for 20).


Ranaviru Sevana continue their winning streak

BLIND CRICKET: Reigning champions Ranaviru Sevana continued their winning streak when they beat CEI Plastics by 117 runs in the Dilmah Challenge Trophy cricket tournament match.

Batting first Ranaviru Sevana were out for 192 in 35 overs and K. T. Abeyratne made the top score of 53 runs while E. Ekanayake made 35. For the CEI Plastics team Sri Lanka 'cap' A. Kalyanakumara took 3 for 24 runs. But CEI Plastics team could not do anything in batting and were shot out for 75 runs with Ranaviru Sevana's K. T. Abeyratne taking 3 for 3 runs to complete a good double.

Sandagala in upset win

In another tournament game, Debutants School for the Blind Sandagala scored an upset win by 76 runs over - School for the Blind, Ratmalana.

Sandagala Blind School made 128 runs in 25 overs and they did well to bundle out Ratmalana for 52 runs in 12 overs.

For Sandagala Blind School Sri Lanka player Madhushanka scored 20. Lakshan was the best of the bowlers and took 3 for 20 for Sandagala in the Ratmalana Blind School total of 52.


Wickremasinghe and Abeyratne win top awards

GOLF: The President's prize and the captain's prize were won by G. Wickremasinghe and R. Abeyratne respectively at the golf matches which were played over the weekend for two consecutive days in somewhat unfavourable weather conditions. The prizes were distributed by Swarnamali Umesh de Silva, the wife of the President of the Club, Mr. Umesh de Silva.
