Lankan in love triangle killed in Doha

Qatar Police are investigating the death of a Sri Lankan who they believe may have been killed by a love rival, the Gulf Times reported.

The 31-year-old's body was discovered, with multiple stab wounds, in the desert last month.

Police are working on the theory that the man, who was married was romantically linked to a housemaid that his killer was also in love with.

The Sri Lankan was buried in Doha at the family's request.

Sources had told the Gulf Times, that the man had absconded from a laundry where he worked some months prior to his death on October 28. His passport had been submitted to the Criminal Investigations Department.

It is believed the Sri Lankan had been stabbed to death at his home in the Um Salal area. His killer allegedly then cleaned up the scene of the murder and dumped the body in the desert.

Sources said the victim and his killer were in love with the same woman and that was the motivation for the murder.

The woman at the centre of the inquiry took shelter at her embassy shortly after the incident, but apparently failed to notify officials of the crime.

The authorities are now working to extradite the woman, who is considered a key factor in solving the case.

A man is currently helping police with their inquiries after he went to a Doha hospital for treatment of wounds he had sustained in a struggle. He allegedly told police that he had been injured trying to defend himself.

The wife of the dead Sri Lankan has since returned to her homeland.
