Second suspect remanded in boy abduction case

The second suspect involved in the abduction of a five-year-old boy
was taken in for questioning in the Madawela town near Wattegama on a
tip off received by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Kandy
police last week.
The suspect was produced before the kandy Magistrate and remanded.
Four men had earlier abducted Mohamed Arukam from his home at Akurana,
Bulugahatenna on November 6 and later demanded Rs. 1.4 million for his
release from his father.
Police lay in ambush and arrested the first suspect, a fortnight ago
while collecting the ransom money of Rs. 1.4 million at the Gampola
town.
The abducted child was later found in a church in the Gampola town.
Police said the four men had abducted a businessman from Kegalle last
year and collected Rs. 10 million for his release.
DIG Central Range, Pujitha Jayasundera, instructed Chief Inspector
Farook, the OIC of the Special Investigation Unit to apprehend the other
two suspects.
