Prayers for President, peace in Lanka

The Imam of the world famous Blue Mosque in Turkey prayed for long-life and health for President Mahinda Rajapaksa and dawn of peace in Sri Lanka.

He was accorded a red carpet welcome with a guard of honour and 21 gun salute in Ankara, Turkey's capital. He had discussions with President of Turkey Abdulla Gul.

President Rajapaksa thanked the Government of Turkey for assisting to build 400 houses for tsunami victims in Weligama.

The Turkish President said that scholarships will be offered to Sri Lankan students to follow higher studies in the Universities of Turkey.

President Rajapaksa and Madame Shiranthi Rajapaksa were taken to Istanbul to inspect various archaeological museum and were shown the garment worn by Prophet Mohammed.

Ministers Rohitha Bogollagama and Mano Wijeratne, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Presidential Advisor A.H.M. Azwer, Sajith Vas Gunawardena and Ambassador accredited M.N. Seneviratne accompanied the President.
