CCI to train N/E construction craftsmen

The Chamber of Construction Industry (CCI) will set up construction craftsmen training centres in the North and the East to provide an accredited workforce for reconstruction and rehabilitation, said CEO/Secretary General, CCI, Dakshitha Thalagodapitiya.

He said Batticaloa has already been identified and plans have been finalised to set up five centres on a Divisional Secretariat area basis to train 1,000 craftsmen a year.

The program will be funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the government of Germany and the GTZ will provide technical support.

"Similar proposals have been forwarded to multinational development banks such as the ADB and bilateral donors to seek assistance to set up training centres for construction craftsmen in the Trincomalee and Vavuniya districts", Thalagodapitiya said.

Training in construction work provides gainful employment opportunities for youth with least educational qualifications from the most vulnerable sectors of the society
