Royal down wooden spoonists Mahanama
Royal College, Colombo despite failing to bring their `A' game to the
park managed to post a facile 54-13 win over wooden spoonists Mahanama
Vidyalaya, Colombo, in their President's League inter-school `A'
Division rugby match ended at Longden Place, yesterday.
The winners scored their points from two converted tries and eight
tries to which the hosts replied with a converted try and two penalty
goals, as the former outscored the latter by 10 tries to one.
Royal who struggled for fluency throughout the game notwithstanding
the fact that they fielded their full XV were rattled at stages by the
underdogs Mahanama MV.
The lads from Colombo 3, who failed to put their first-time tackles
were able to get their act together and did well to contain the much
fancied Royalists from running away with the game. For the lads from
Reid Avenue whose game was littered with mistakes from the outset left
winger Chamara Dabare stood out with a hat-trick of tries, while
blinside flanker Hasthika Bandaranayake, lock forward Kalana Amarasinghe,
inside centre Mushin Faleel, outside centre Duminda Atygalle, full back
Shabeer Mohammed, right wing Shamil Ahamed, substitute centre Asif Akram
and openside flanker Shehan Pathirana had a touchdown each.
Inside centre and place-kicker Mushin Faleel, kicked nine points by
way of a converted try and a conversion.
For Mahanama Vidyalaya, left wing Chathura Chanaka grabbed their
solitary try while lock forward Mahesh Kumaranayake converted it and
fired two penalty goals. (J.K.)
