An Australian woman is recovering after being wedged between her
toilet and bathroom door for a week. The 67-year-old fell over, trapped
her feet on either side of the loo and wedged her body against the
inward-opening door. She spent a week stuck there before a neighbour was
alerted to her cries for help.
Michael Hibberd said he heard her as he was hanging his washing out
in his garden on Sunday morning. He could not get into the house so he
called the police and fire service, who eventually rescued her by taking
the door off its hinges. The woman was suffering from dehydration and
was taken to hospital.
Guinea pigs get into Guinness record book
An elite team of guinea pigs has set two new records for the Guinness
Book of World Records. The world record for the fastest run by a guinea
pig was won by two-year-old Flash, who conquered the 10 metre red carpet
track in 8.81 seconds. And the world record for the longest jump by a
guinea pig was set by Diesel who leapt 20.5 centimetres between two set
points.
The stunt was set up to mark this weekend’s release of Disney’s new
film G-Force, a film about guinea pigs. The stars of the comedy are
guinea pigs who are trained as spies by government agents. It has been
brought to the big screen by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, well-known for
his CSI stable of TV shows.
Muffy the missing dog found after nine years
A dog which vanished from outside an Australian family’s home nine
years ago has been found alive and well 1,000 miles away. Fluffy white
mutt Muffy was discovered sleeping on a scrap of cardboard in Melbourne
by the RSPCA who were investigating a possible animal cruelty case. A
microchip in her neck helped identify her original owners and after a
few days of searching for a phone number, officials tracked down Natalie
Lampard.
“When the RSPCA described her, I told them her name; I knew
immediately it was our Muffy,” Ms Lampard said. The pooch was suffering
from a severe allergic reaction to fleas and has been having treatment
since she was discovered.
Passengers snap as croc escapes on plane
A baby crocodile has caused panic on a plane after it wriggled out of
a passenger’s hand luggage and went for a walk around the aircraft.
People screamed as the 1ft-long reptile made its way under seats and
down the aisle during the international flight.
Fortunately, a crew member on the EgyptAir flight from Abu Dhabi to
Cairo managed to catch the wayward creature and the passengers calmed
down. The crew then handed it over to authorities when the jet landed in
the Egyptian capital. It will now be housed at Giza zoo in the city.
