Action against blundering officials- Education Minister
by Ananda KANNANGARA
Education Minister Susil Premajayanth yesterday assured that
disciplinary action would soon be taken against all irresponsible
education officials who neglected their duties by making blunders in
school term test question papers.
Speaking to the Sunday Observer, Minister Premajayanth highlighted
that the special committee, appointed by the Education Ministry to look
into the irregularities caused by provincial educational authorities in
the preparing of term test papers will submit their final report
tomorrow (August 10).
"After a careful study of the report we will not only take action
against irresponsible officials, but make sure that such happenings
would not occur in the future," he said.
It is reported that a large number of spelling, factual and printing
errors appeared in question papers, given for students who sat for their
mid year school term test.
The Minister further said that carelessness, inefficiency, negligence
and the employment of unqualified persons is the cause for the question
paper blunders.
He also said he does not wish to see a few irresponsible and
inefficient teachers and zonal directors to play with the education
of 4.3 million students in the country.
Referring to his recent visit in the Jaffna Peninsula, Minister
Premajayanth said that there are five Education Zones in Jaffna and not
a single mistake was found in term test question papers due to
dedication, commitment and the efficiency of education officials.
