Weapons recovered

Troops engaged in the reconnaissance operations in the Piruppu and Tharavikalam recovered a large haul of weapons on Friday; Army sources said. The weapons recovered by the troops include 16 Rocket Propelled Grenades, 2,400 rounds of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, 419 GPMG Gun links, 36 rounds of paddle gun ammunition, 40 rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, a barrel of a 122 mm artillery gun, seven 60 mm mortar bombs, 24 hand grenades, one I-com set, one map, four sea mines, one 40 mm grenade, one 81 mm mortar round, one antipersonnel mine and one part of a Light Machine Gun (LMG).

Meanwhile, STF troops in Batticaloa conducted a search and clear operation in the general area Tharavikulam and recovered 20 cans containing 55 Kg of C-4 explosives on Thursday.
