'Resettling another 578 in Jaffna'

Resettling another 578 people from 194 families in the Jaffna
district is being planned, Northern Province Governor Maj. Gen. G.A.
Chandrasiri stated. "The plan is to resettle these people who are now
living in the Welfare Centres in Jaffna very soon. With the progress of
resettlements in the Northern province certain parts of the Jaffna High
Security Zone are getting de-mined for the owners to return," the
Governor stated further.
"We are in the process of identifying original Jaffna residents now
living in Vavuniya welfare camps to be resettled in their homes. We have
already identified 20 families," he added.
In addition several new steps are under the process of planning to
promote tourism in Jaffna. "In order to promote local tourism we have
identified the Casuarina Beach in Karainagar suitable in the initial
stage. With the help of the Government, the local authorities have
capability to develop the area and we hope to initiate this soon," Maj.
Gen. Chandrasiri added.
