Meet Usain Bolt - the fastest man ever on earth! Bolt once again proved that he is the undisputed king when it comes to sprints, with a new world record timing of 9.58 seconds to win the men's 100m gold medal at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Berlin last week.

"The undisputed sprint merchant earned USD 160,000 for his blistering run, pocketing US$ 60,000" as "prize for the gold" medal and a further bonus of "US$ 100,000 for breaking his own world record of 9.69". It was mind-numbing to see the 22-year-old Jamaican knocking off a 0.11 second from the 9.69 record he set at the Olympic Games in Beijing exactly one year ago.

Usain St. Leo Bolt was born on 21 August 1986 in Sherwood Content, a remote Jamaican town in Trelawny. His parents, Jennifer and Wellesley Bolt, ran a grocery in a rural area and young Usain grew up with his brother Sadeeki and his sister Sherine. Usain spent most of his time playing cricket and soccer in the streets with his brother. "When I was young, I didn't really think about anything other than sports", says the new World and Olympic champion.

It was at Waldensia Primary and All-age School that he first began to show his sprinting potential, running in the annual national primary-schools' meeting for his parish. At the age of 12, young Usain Bolt became the school's fastest runner, winning 100m.

His entry to Willian Knibb Memorial High School opened a new chapter in his life as young Bolt continued to focus on other sports. But it was his cricket coach who first identified his running skills and diverted him to athletics.

Today, Usain Bolt is the undisputed king on track, holding the world and Olympic records for men's 100m. Many expected American Tyson Gay, the defending World Championship gold medallist, to give a close run to Bolt, but at the end it was a one horse race for the Jamaican.

Gay clocked 9.71 seconds but that was good enough only for the silver medal as Bolt had improved his existing 100m world record by a magical 0.11 seconds.

"I just did it! I am proud of myself. This is a big moment in history. For me it was a great run. This is big in Jamaica. I just came to execute and I did it right," the fastest man on earth said after his triumph.
