You

In the morning fresh and bright,
When the morning dew wetted my feet,
I searched for you, and,
You were behind me.

In the scorching noon,
When the day is almost half done, and,
When the sun is directly above me,
You were nowhere to be seen
So I took the lead.

When I walked home
In the night,
You took quick steps, and
Advanced beyond my pace.

When I turned at the gate,
You were a mile ahead,

Oh, my dear own shadow,
Kindly wait for me at the doorstep
For you never abandon me.

Park

A moment
crystallized?
A cool cube of
Minuscule perfection
Dappled sunlight
Green air
Fast car
Slow kiss
Child's laugh
Honey pretzels
Free cloud -
Little frozen cube
Dropped and slowly
Stirred
Into the giant cup
Sweetens up
The placid brew
Of luxurious
Idleness

Seasons

At last it has stopped snowing
New grass is growing
Flower buds pop up
Dandelion, daisy and buttercup
It's spring

Flowers are in bloom
The sun sends away the gloom
The weather is fine for swimming
Everyone goes about a-humming
It's summer

The weather is fine and mellow
Leaves are red, orange and yellow
Threes are laid bare
And flowers are rare
It's autumn

Squirrels and dormice sleep
Snowflakes fall deep
And blocks doorways
While the sun hides its rays
It's winter

The Night

These lines written in admiration
In blissful communion with silence
Thoughts and moods in perfect union
The showers of joy in abundance

Silvery streaks of moonlit night
Coming from above the star studded sky
Peeping through wild to make me shy
I take a dip in the soothing light

Spread thy petals to bloom in white
Shake soft wings to dance with the vine
Scent of sweetness - kisses of thine
I sip sugar wine and feel so fine

Ripples of water to ring in my ear
Rustling reed that lined the river
Rolling stones to shed moss cover
I close my eyes to hear you better

Floating fireflies in aeroplane style
Wheeling and whirling - a dance of sprite
Show of the night - a common sight
I open my eyes to see you in flight

Silhouette slim figures of painted palms
Green and purple in the nature's arm
Standing still in the shape of a dome
Take my soul for I feel at home

Sandhya Fernando

A plea

All is calm and silent
In this peaceful night
But, the endless sound
Of the stream
Constantly echoes in my ears.

I want to give a rest
To my weary eyes
But how....?
'Shakespeare', 'Blake', 'Wordsworth'
You are staring at me

I can not escape into the dreamy world
As 'Keats' tried
'O, Grecian Urn'! Your vivid pictures
Still flash upon my eyes

I'm struggling to keep my eyes awake
But, in my every attempt
I find it hard
'Dear Urn'! bring more lovely pictures
To keep me awake

'Chomsky', 'Saussaure'
you are still very far from me
How can I keep my eyes closed
When you'll are frowning at me?

'Assessments', 'Covering Syllabuses', too
Bring a lot of stress to my mind
But, I know that I'm committed
To my duty as well

Dear sleep.... Don't come to me yet
Help me reach my goal...
