Police unit for money scams

A new unit to keep check and track the money related malpractices was declared open by Gamini Navaratne, Senior Deputy Inspector General at the Nuwara Eliya Police Headquarters, recently.

Addressing a distinguished gathering Gamini Navaratne said similar units have been opened in Matale, Dambulla and Gampola with a view to curb malpractices with regard to money transactions. He pointed out the need for the victims and the people who were affected by such travails to bring their problems to police in order to bring the culprits before the law.

The Nuwara Eliya DIG Jayantha Gammanpila paid tributes to the Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne for his wide vision towards introducing new methods in the detection of crimes in the country and in the hill capital in particular.

The Government Agent, Nuwara Eliya D.C.P. Kumarasiri, said in a place like Nuwara Eliya large scale vegetable cultivators and traders are involved in money transactions.

Hence the setting up of the new unit will help in a big way in curbing money related crimes.

Gamini Maturata, SSP Nuwara Eliya welcomed the large gathering present.
