Observer Mobitel schoolboy cricketer of the year:
Stage set for Mega Show on Tuesday
The stage is set for the premier schools cricket awards ceremony with
theholding of the 31st Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year
Mega Show, to be held at the BMICH, Colombo 7 on Tuesday (1) commencing
from 6p.m.
Gracing the Observer-Mobitel Schools Cricket extravaganza as the
chief guest will be former Sri Lanka Test opener Sidath Wettimuny.
There will be a galaxy of present and former Sri Lanka cricketers
including national captain Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Muttiah
Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuriya and Sri Lanka’s World Cup winning
captain Arjuna Ranatunga.
After a heavy final week of voting, Angelo Perera of St. Peter’s
College(All-Island) and S.H. Indunil Kumara of Devapathiraja Vidyalaya,
Sandalankawa (Outstation) were voted as the Most Popular Schoolboy
Cricketers for 2009.
The two winners, who have never been in the lead, polled a massive
over 23,000 votes each in the final count.
