New administrative complex at Battaramulla

Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh
Gunawardane along with the Urban Development Minister Rohana Kumara
Dissanayake laid the foundation for the 13 storeyed administrative
complex to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 4,000 million at a ceremony
held at Sethsiripaya Battaramulla.Construction work on the complex is
expected to be completed within two years Ministry sources said.
Even-though the plan of developing Sri Jayawardanapura as the
administrative city was delayed due to various reasons the Urban
Development and Sacred Area Development Ministry could successfully
implement the project the sources added.Ministry officers noted that the
shifting of the Government and other social services institutions from
Colombo city to the area will help Government's attempt of developing
the Colombo city as the commercial city in the Asian region.
With the completion of the project the irregularly located office
complexes and other social service institutions will be shifted to the
Battaramulla administrative complex step by step.Urban Development and
Sacred Area Development Ministry Secretary P. Ramanujam, Urban
Development Authority Director General Prasanna Silva, Project Director
Renuka Wickramasinghe and Project Manager Prof. Joachim were also
present.
