Davisamara MV, Senanayake MV take major titles

The 11th annual DSI Super Sports Interschools Volleyball Championship for 2009 closed yesterday at the Sugathadasa Stadium with Davisamara Vidyalaya beating the more fancied Senanayake MMV in the u-18 boys final 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-20). Earlier in the day Senanayake MMV Girls managed to outplay the girls from Anamaduwa MV to clinch the DSI Trophy for under 18, three sets to one.

The day which saw four finals worked off. These games produced the best spiking from the young spikers who are targeting to enter the senior levels in both categories.

Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and the School Volleyball Association have done a lot to bring this event to such great heights with the financial support being extended for them for the last decade by the sponsor DSI Group of Companies.

The boys final was evenly contested in the first set going into extra time and Davisamara won the set at 26-24. The second set began with Senanayake MMV taking off well but the young outfit from Seeduwa caught up and stretched their lead, and never gave the opportunity to their opponent to get closer to their total and made finished the set 25-20.

Senanayake lads were morally down at this stage and never showed any signs of making a comeback. They succumbed in the third set too with the same margin 25-20 to give the match and the Trophy to Davisamara MMV.

Minister for Education Susil Premajayantha was the chief guest and gave away the awards. The President of the SLVBF Dilan Perera and Dr. Sudharshani Fernandopulle the wife of late Jeyaraj Fernandopulle a former President SLVBF were the guest of honour.
