Bagful of trophies...... The Dissanayake family carried
everything before them at Kandy Garden Club tennis tournament
worked off at the club courts in Kandy. In all the Dissanayake

TENNIS:The Dissanayake family - pappa Anura, mamma Mala and their off
springs Dilenthi and Dilantha carved a name for themselves in tennis in
the hill capital, when they, together, won a record 19 trophies at the
Kandy District Annual Tennis Tournament 2009 organised by the 131
year-old Kandy Garden Club worked off at the Club's tennis courts in
Kandy.
Not satisfied with this, Dilantha and Dilenthi also won the
prestigious player of the tournament awards for men and women's
respectively to complete the rout of the other participants.Daughter
Dilenthi was unbeaten throughout the tournament and won five
championships. Pappa Anura and Mamma Mala won one championship each
while sonna boy Dilantha won a whopping six championships. When the
announcer announced the names of the winners at the awards ceremonies.
It was also interesting to see that often family members competing each
other at many a final. It went this way .... Dilenthi beat her mother
Mala to win the women's open singles championship. In the 'Mixed' open
doubles partnered by her brother, this duo beat father Anura and mother
Mala. The Chief Guest at the occasion and Mayor of Kandy L. B. Aluwihare
said, that the Kandy Garden Club was formed 131 years ago by the
expatriate planters in the area and it has done yeoman service to
promote tennis over their years.
