Kandy District Became champions at Central Region Inter-District Under-17 Cricket Tournament when they beat Nuwara Eliya District by 6 wickets in the final game of the triangular played at the open Prison Camp grounds at Pallekele yesterday. Match winner for Kandy District was the leg-spinner from little known Nugawela Central College Suraj Rajaguru who had fine figures of 6 for 4 runs to polish off Nuwara Eliya's middle order batting.

Kandy hit off the 86 runs required for victory for the loss of four wickets.

Nuwara Eliya District: 85 all out in 37.5 overs (Pabodha Lakmal 28, M. Prabathkande 12, Suraj Rajaguru 6 for 4, Heshan Tissera 3 for 6).

Kandy District: 89 for 4 in 14.5 overs (Heshan Tissera 30, S. Weerakoddy 18, K. Jayasuriya 15 not out, Niroshan Dickwella 10, R. Dilshan 1 for 26, S. Wickremasinghe 1 for 21).
