NCE export awards ceremony on September 25

The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) held its Export Awards media conference on September 3 at the Hilton Colombo.

Mrs. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena - Chairperson of SLT Mobitel (Main sponsor) is seen handing over the package to Rohan Fernando - President NCE. Others in the picture - L-R: Rasa Weerasingham - Executive Director, NCE, Suren Amarasekera - CEO, SLT Mobitel (Main Sponsor) and Patrick Amarasinghe - Founder President NCE.

President NCE Rohan Fernando said that the NCE Annual Export Awards is a high profile and looked forward event in the business calendar of Sri Lanka. The NCE the only Chamber exclusively serving Sri Lankan Exporters is the "Voice of Exporters".

The Chamber has been conducting this event since 1993 to recognise and reward export excellence of Sri Lankan exporters, who make an indispensable and vital contribution to sustain and expand the economy. The event is one of the single contributions made by the Chamber to the export development of Sri Lanka.

A noteworthy feature of the awards scheme is its refinement over the years with the inclusion of several value added features, to become the benchmark for awards schemes in Sri Lanka.

With the opening of the doors of the scheme a couple of years ago to non-member exporters as well, the number of applicants vying for awards, has shown a marked increase. This year the Chamber received 20 per cent more applications than last year in spite of the fact that Sri Lankan exports have been severely affected by the global economic crisis since the second half of 2008.

This proves the resilience and determination of Sri Lankan exporters.

The export of products which has been the main section for awards from the inception of the scheme had undergone several refinements to recognise the contribution made to national exports by emerging new products such as manufactured jewellery and processed food products. Important sub sectors among industrial products have also been picked this year for recognition.

Special Gold Awards are given to the best Brand Exporter as well as the Best Woman Exporter. This year two additional Gold Awards are to be presented to the Most Innovative Exporter and the Most Value Adding Exporter.

The most coveted award is the Gold Award won by the "Most Outstanding Exporter" of the year. The Runner-up receives the most outstanding exporter Silver Award.
