She is quite popular with the television audience, but it took a while for her to breakthrough to cinema. As young actress Nadeesha Hemamali puts it, she had to gather as much experience as possible from teledramas before making it to the wide screen.

She finally entered movies with Milton Jayawardena's 'Tharaka Mal', taking on the role of a girl of Tamil and Sinhala origin.

She says, "Acting in films is not entirely a different experience from portraying a role in a teledrama. Apart from a few technical aspects, you have to be dedicated to the project and concentrate on giving your best for the role. I always try to give the best in me, be it the mini screen or the wide screen. Cinema is just a challenge which I took time to approach."

Though her maiden movie failed to make much of an impact, offers to portray roles in movies kept pouring in. She finally settled on 'Julia' for her second movie appearance.

"The new technological aspects and the glitz in 'Julia' appealed to me. I have worked with Sampath Sri Roshana before when he was the assistant director of 'Sinidu Piyapath'. He even directed the visuals of a music video in which I portrayed a few scenes. Though he and producer Charith Abeysinghe were new to the scene it was not difficult working with them," she reveals.Nadeesha had acted in around 30 teledramas before turning to cinema. She clinched the best Up and Coming Actress Award at the Sumathi Tele Awards for 'Pulina Prasada' in 2005.

She says, "If I am not happy with a character or the sum, I do not hesitate to decline the role. If a role demands fashionable outfits there is no reason to refuse sporting the attire."

Her talents are not limited to acting. She had taken to dubbing and had lent her voice for Sri Lankan born Indian actress Pooja Umashanker in 'Anjalika' and 'Aasai Mang Piyabanna' and Udari Warnakulasuriya in 'Paya Enna Hiruse'.

"It is quite a challenge dubbing for another artiste. You need to put yourself into the shoes of the character and situation through your mind while you are stuck in a studio. I love dubbing and wish to proceed in that angle," admits the petite actress who is 24 and full of life.

She will be appearing in quite a number of teledramas in the future. Out of the lot she named 'Aadara Sulochana' and 'Uda Vadiya Mal' as ones to watch out for. Her goal is to continue portraying diverse characters to the best of her ability. She expresses her gratitude to all those who had helped her to proceed in the field.
