Tankers' Melody of Peace brings cream of bands together

Raising funds for needy comrades:

'The Tankers' are preparing to bring a thrilling experience hand in hand with the best of the showbiz in the country, 'Melody of Peace' - the musical extravaganza of the year. The cause: to raise funds for disabled Armoured Cor-personnel and their families affected by the war in ridding terrorism.

The Sri Lanka Army prestigious Armoured Corps or fondly known as 'the Tankers' in the aftermath their immense contribution towards the historical victory of the Security Forces over terrorism, is organizing this gala event with the ever popular musical bands 'Gypsies' and 'Marians'. The special day, September 19 evening will be dazzling to the tunes of the melody of peace. Also performing on stage to thrill the audience would be the enchanting dancers of the well-known 'Prasadi Dance Academy'.

In their own words, this is an exercise that would thrill those who give as well as those who get. Having fulfilled their obligations to the nation eternally silencing ruthless terrorism in our motherland, they have now taken it on themselves to raise funds towards improving welfare facilities extended to families of their comrades killed and wounded in battle. 'Melody of Peace' is what they have come up with.

A press conference was held recently at the 'Rock House' Camp - the Armoured Corp headquarters, to inform the media about this wonderful event at seven in the evening at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

"Serving these valiant soldiers is the utmost duty of a citizen as they are the people who sacrificed their lives and limbs to protect us. First, I am a citizen and the artist in me came next. Hence it is my responsibility to support them by any possible means," Nalin Perera, the 'Marians' leader said.

Wishing the very best for this goodwill gesture, Nalin said, "Still we know that people love our heroes and definitely they will gather on that day filling the entire stadium."

Speaking at the especial event, Colonel Commandant of the Armoured Corp Major General Niranjan Ranasinghe said," Coordinating this sort of an event is strange to an average soldier trained to handle the roaring tank and its booming guns. Yet we are determined to carry out our duty to our comrades and it is the need of the hour."

"The stage is all set for the honourable cause and we hope all the best for the success of the event," Maj.Gen. Ranasinghe added.

Supporting the goodwill gesture, by moving in as key sponsors, are the market leader in the telecommunication field Sri Lanka Telecom, Cosmic Technologies, MPI Group and WSR Fernando Group and Company Private Limited.

At the special event representing the sponsors Ms. Vijitha Ratnayake, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Telecom, Kumar Rajapaksa, Managing Director of Cosmic Technologies, Sunil Fernando, Managing Director of WSR Fernando Group and Company Private Limited, Karel Korcian from M.P.I. Group and 'Marians' leader Nalin Perera, Prasadi Ranasinghe representing Prasadi Dance Academy were also present.

Tickets are priced at Rs.3000/,2000/,1000/,500/,250 and sold at all 'Keells Super' outlets in Colombo and suburbs.

Last but not the least, the Sri Lanka Armoured Corp, as one of the pioneer institutes of the esteemed Sri Lanka Army invites you all to enjoy the musical gala and be a part of a worthy cause.
