Internationalisation of Sri Lankan Entrepreneurship
“Internationalisation of Sri Lankan Entrepreneurship: A Study of Sri
Lankan Immigrant Entrepreneurship in Japan” by Prof. H. D. Karunaratne,
attached to the Department of Business Economics, Faculty of Management
and Finance, University of Colombo, is dealing with an important aspect
of entrepreneurship development in Sri Lanka. With the liberalisation of
economic activities, several structural changes have taken place in Sri
Lanka including the emergence of immigrant entrepreneurship.
Prof. Karunaratne has addressed this aspect focusing on Sri Lankan
immigrant entrepreneurs in Japan. The book contains eight chapters. It
begins with an introductory chapter with background, objectives,
methodology and limitations. This was followed by a literature review on
immigrant entrepreneurship. Chapter 3 presents structural features,
growth performance and economic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka.
Chapters 4.5.6 and 7 deal with Sri Lankan entrepreneurs in Japan with
special emphasis of business activities, institutional support (eg. Sri
Lanka Business Council of Japan - SLBCJ) and sources of factors inputs.
The last chapter presents summary, conclusions and recommendations.
This book is clearly written and reflects recent economic trends and
developments in entrepreneurship development. Its subject coverage is
comprehensive and rich in statistical evidence. It will be very useful
for undergraduate study programmes on entrepreneurship development,
international business, economic development and globalisation.
It will also be very useful for policy makers, trade promotion
organisations and entrepreneurs interested in promoting international
business activities. This book deservers a wide welcome from all these
target beneficiaries. The book will be launched on September 25 at 5.00
