Week to promote tourism

The Tourism Ministry has declared one week from September 27 to October 3 as Tourism Week to mark World Tourism Day which falls on September 27, Minister Nandana Gunatilake said.

During this week, ways and means to promote tourism in Sri Lanka will be explained to those who are stakeholders in the tourism industry.

Under the 'Mahinda Chinthana' national development concept, the Ministry aims to promote environment-friendly tourism in Sri Lanka and this is one objective of the Tourism Week, Ministry sources said.

It is also intended to urge the concerned parties to move towards environment-friendly tourism in Sri Lanka, according to the Ministry sources.

The Ministry is also conducting art, poster and essay competitions at school level and national level to coincide with the World Tourism Day.

A special event has been organised by the Tourism Ministry at the Panadura beach park open air auditorium at 4.00 p.m. on September 27, the opening day of the Tourism Week.

The winners of the competitions will receive prizes on the last day of the Week, at a ceremony to be held at the BMICH.
