People have not forgotten JVP terror
by W. T. J. S. Kaviratne Ambalangoda Special Corr.
“The JVP in order to hide its political bankruptcy creates baseless
stories against me and it is high time for the JVP to realise that the
people of this country have not forgotten their past terrorist
activities”, said PA candidate for the Southern Provincial Council
election and the Galle District S.L.F.P. Organiser Sajin Vas Gunawardena
addressing a meeting held at Ambalangoda during the weekend.
He said during the dark era of JVP terror, thousands of innocent
people including, scholars, erudite Buddhist Monks, Professionals and
Politicians were gunned down almost on daily basis. Banks, jewellery
shops and other business establishments were robbed. JVP gunmen were
worse than LTTE terrorists during that period. They had destroyed the
economy of the country.
The PA candidate said peace loving people of this country who
eschewed violence and terrorism would never trust the JVP.
He said today the people of this country were rallying round PA and
President Mahinda Rajapaksa irrespective of party politics. Referring to
his plans in developing Galle District he said that the opinions and
needs of the people at grass root levels would be taken into
consideration in development programs.
The PA candidate said the development plans for the villages should
be done by the people and not according to the whims and fancies of
politicians. Over the years many of the development programs proved to
be unsuccessful due to the fact that they had been done without people’s
participation wasting millions in public funds.
Southern Province was not an exception, during his survey in the
Galle District he said that he found numerous unsuccessful development
programs done wasting public funds. Galle District was rich in resources
but these resources were not properly utilised.
The PA candidate said in addition to the Plantation sector, Tourism
and numerous other Industries could be further developed, in order to
improve economy and generate employment opportunities for the
unemployed.
He said that according to his novel development program for the Galle
District, he had already assigned a team of organisers in every Grama
Niladhari Division of the Galle District to identify the requirements of
the villages. Members numbering more than 800 in this team had already
submitted him lists of requirements of the villages of the Galle
District.
All the relevant issues would be discussed in the Temples and other
places of religious worship in the village, he said.
