Waidyatilaka - IAAF Technical Delegate
ATHLETICS: P. H. D. Waidyatilaka No. 1 International Technical
Official of the International Amateur Athletics Federation in Asia has
been appointed as Technical Delegate for the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix
to be held over the week-end.
This is the second successive occasion that Waidyatilaka has been
invited for the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix by the IAAF.
He was first appointed in 2008 on his return from officiating at the
Beijing Olympic Games to the prestigious position which us the highest
office in an International Championship which is normally reserved for
the IAAF Council members.
Waidyatilaka will be responsible for all technical aspects of the
championship including supervision of anti-doping control.
At the end of the championship a comprehensive report has to be
submitted to the IAAF on all aspects of the meet.
It is a honour for Sri Lanka that the IAAF has placed much faith and
confidence in inviting Waidyatilaka - the only Sri Lankan ITO as
Technical Delegate for this star-studded championship.
Usain Bolt - the triple gold medalist at the Beijing Olympics and the
Berlin World Championships in August 2009, along with over 10 other
World Champions and record holders including Yelena Isenbeyava (Russia)
in women's pole vault and Dayron Robles (Cuba) in 110 metres Hurdles are
billed to participate.
Shanghai athletic fans will hope their champion hurdle Liu Xian who
had to walk out at the start in Beijing due to injury will be there in
the 110 metres hurdles to claim the gold from Dayron Robles.
